Design for Load-Bearing Basement Wall

A trip to Restoration Hardware gives an idea.

I have been thinking about how to maximize the feel of the high ceiling basement, getting as much light from the hill-side into the basement.

Here is the temporary load-bearing wall the first builder has put in place which we want to open up as much as possible.
